Machinery and plant transport: UK delivery and collection
Grey Line Transport arranges machinery and plant transport across the UK, including equipment collection after a purchase and delivery between sites. Based in Harlow, Essex, we plan each movement around the machine, the journey and the loading arrangements. Collection and delivery do not need to start or finish near our headquarters.

Machine transport for purchases and site moves
Machinery dimensions, weight and condition determine the transport arrangements. Include fitted attachments, access restrictions and any loading equipment available at the collection and delivery sites so we can assess the proposed move.
We do not quote from a category alone. Tell us what the machine is, and we confirm whether we can carry it and what is needed before anything is booked.
Machinery collection in Essex and London, with UK-wide delivery
Buying equipment in Essex or London does not mean you have to arrange separate collection and onward transport. Send the collection address, destination and machine details together so we can assess the complete journey. Collections elsewhere in the UK are welcome too.
For equipment bought from a dealer, auction or another business, check that it is paid for and released before a collection is arranged. Include any collection reference, site opening times and the person authorised to hand over the machine. For a site-to-site move, tell us when access is available at both ends.
Dimensions, weight and operating condition
Use the manufacturer's figures if you have them, or measure it as it will sit on the vehicle. Include any attachments, buckets, forks, tracks or fitted extras, because they change the overall size.
- Make, model and type of machine, with a photograph if possible
- Overall length, width and height, and an approximate weight
- Whether it starts, drives, steers and brakes, or is a non-runner
- Whether tracks, wheels, hydraulics or lifting points are damaged
- Whether attachments travel fitted or separately
- Whether there is a ramp, tie-down point or loading restriction we should know about
Access, loading and unloading
Check the route from the road to the machine for gateways, soft ground, overhead cables, slopes, tight turns and any weight or height limits. Sharing these details in advance helps us plan suitable access.
Loading and unloading arrangements are agreed in advance and written into the booking confirmation. If the machine drives on, we need to know who will be operating it and that they are competent to do so. If it needs lifting, the site must say how, and who is arranging it. We do not assume any lifting equipment is available at either end.
You are responsible for confirming that the pickup and delivery sites can be reached and that we have permission to enter and load. A named contact who can meet the driver at each address saves a great deal of time.
How suitability is confirmed
We review the machine specifications, route and loading arrangements before confirming suitability, availability and timing. If further information is needed, we will explain what to provide before booking.
Use the transport enquiry form for machinery quotes. The telephone line is dedicated to regional vehicle recovery.
Storage and onward moves
Harlow is our office headquarters, not a yard, so machinery cannot be dropped off there. If a machine needs to wait between collection and delivery, storage can be arranged through trusted partners and is confirmed before booking.
Questions about machinery and plant delivery and collection
What affects the price of machinery transport?
The route, transported dimensions and weight, operating condition, loading arrangements and site access all affect the quote. Send the collection and delivery locations, machine specifications and preferred date together. Price and availability are confirmed for the proposed job before booking.
Can you arrange plant machinery collection in London?
Yes, you can enquire about collection in London for delivery elsewhere in the UK, or delivery into London from another location. Include any site booking requirements, loading restrictions and access limits so we can confirm whether the movement is suitable.
Do I need exact weights before I enquire?
For an initial enquiry, provide an estimated weight and overall dimensions if exact figures are unavailable. We will confirm whether a manufacturer's plate or further measurements are needed before booking.
Who is responsible for loading and unloading?
This is agreed before booking and depends on the machine and the sites. Tell us what is available at each end. We do not assume lifting equipment or an operator will be provided.
Can you collect a machine that does not run?
Possibly. Tell us its condition, whether it rolls or steers, and how it can be secured. We will confirm whether we can load it.
Is machinery transport UK-wide?
Yes. Pickup and delivery can be anywhere in the UK. Recovery is a separate 24/7 regional service; see our recovery page for coverage details.
Should I phone or use the form?
Use the transport form, which is the fastest route. The telephone number is for recovery only.
